Dear Parents,

The 2008 St Joseph St. Thomas swim team season will be our 12^th consecutive swimming season. There will be approximately 11 swimming sessions and consist of 2 to 3 meets and 8 to 9 practices. Our practice sessions will mostly be held on Sunday afternoons at the beautiful new pool on the campus of Wagner College and last approximately one hour. The 1^st through 4^th grades begin practice at or about 4:30pm. The 5^th through 8^th grades begin practice at or about 5:30pm.  I will provide a team calendar for the exact times of our events.

Wagner College is located on Howard Avenue, about 3 blocks off of Clove Road. Swimmers are expected to be at the pool approximately 15 minutes before the practice begins so that they can change into their swimsuits and be in the water for the start of the practice. Travel time from our parish is approximately 20 minutes so please plan accordingly.

Our season will begin in March. The first few weeks of the season will be dedicated to learning the competitive swimming strokes. The first swimming meet will be held at the end of April. The swim meets last approximately 2 hours. All swimmers will be required to stay until the end of the meet. Approximately 1 or 2 of the swimming meets will be held during our practice time slot on Sundays. The other 1 or 2 meets may be held on Friday night at 7:30pm or Saturday at 3:00pm.

The swim meets are very competitive, exciting and a lot of fun. Each swimmer should compete in two or three events each meet. No swimmer can compete in more than three events. Parents are required to watch the meets from the glass windows in the upstairs hallway that overlooks the pool.

The swimming meet competition is divided into 4 groups:

First and Second graders                      Fifth and Sixth graders

Third and Fourth graders                      Seventh and Eighth graders

Team swimsuits are not required. However, most team member will have the team suit and they are strongly recommended. The swimsuits can be purchased directly from Legends Sporting Goods located in the Waldbaums shopping center on Amboy road.

·        The female suit is a navy blue TYR Maxback style # MSO

·        The male suit is currently under consideration. I will let you know our choice as soon as possible.
